Investigation underway into cause of major fire

A fire that began at a music shop in Exeter has taken all night to tackle according to the emergency services.>The fire began in the basement of Richer Sounds on Sidwell Street on Wednesday 27 July and 15 fire engines were needed to tackle it at its height.>Police have closed a number of roads around the area as they make the building safe.

Fire crews remain at the scene this morning (28 July).>It is expected that the disruption in the area will last throughout today as emergency services continue to make the building safe.>Road closures will remain in place but diversions have been set up in the area to help aid traffic.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire.

LATEST TRAVEL:

• Western Way closed has led to congestion on York Road to Longbrook Street / Pennsylvania Road.

• Also affecting Sidwell Street in both directions between York Road and B3212 Western Way / Old Tiverton Road

• All approaches to the roundabout are currently closed due to the building fire. Police advise the road will remain closed throughout Thursday.
