Sea turtle on the mend after being washed up on Cornish beach
A sea turtle is being treated at Newquay Aquarium after being washed up on a beach in Cornwall. The loggerhead was found fighting for her life on Gwithian beach last month. It's thought she arrived there after getting caught up in January's stormy weather and strong currents.
This is one of the first time's this sea turtle has been able to feed herself since arriving here a few weeks ago. Until now, she was being tube fed around the clock - and it was touch and go as to whether she would survive.
The turtle, who hasn't got a name yet, was found on Gwithain beach in January. But scientists suspect she came from warmer waters. Loggerhead turtles aren't native to our waters its thought she came from the mediterranean and travelled here with a strong tide. The team at the Aquarium are hoping to release her back into the wild in a few months time.
