Asda shopper orders baby wipes, but gets surprising substitute

An ITV News viewer's online shopping order took a surprising turn when Asda said the baby wipes he asked for weren't available - so sent him a bottle of whisky instead as a substitute.

A note sent to ITV Westcountry presenter Ian Axton showed the £6 "fragranced" wipes replaced with an £18.50 bottle of Bells whisky.

Better than baby wipes?

Many of those that responded to the Tweet argued the viewer had managed to get a "bargain", while one said: "I must order some wipes on my next order".

The savvy shopper from Plymouth is certainly satisfied with how things turned out.

When contacted by ITV News, Asda said it had previously been unaware of the mix-up, but had since spoken to the customer and arranged for the wipes to be delivered.

"The customer was happy with this and even happier to keep the whisky," a spokesperson said, adding that staff in the local branch would be given further training on substituted items.
