Four people killed in Jubilee Bank Holiday car crash
Four people have died after two cars crashed in Somerset this Bank Holiday Tuesday.
A VW Passat and a Vauxhall Astra, carrying five passengers, collided on the A39 near Cannington, Somerset, on Tuesday afternoon.
Two people died at the scene while two others died later after being rushed to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
Police revealed a 68-year-old man travelling in the Passat died, along with a 73-year-old woman, a 59-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man in the Astra.
A fifth man remains in hospital, where his condition is currently unknown.
Avon and Somerset Police sealed off the road - known locally as the 'Cannington Straight' - for more than six hours after the accident at around 14:30.
Six ambulances, a doctor, police, three fire crews and even and RAF helicopter were called to the scene.
Two casualties were pronounced dead straight away.
Police later announced that two more victims from the crash had died.
Local resident Nicola Puddy, who lives on the A39, said the whole community was shocked and upset.
