Proposals to develop the home of Bath Rugby go on show on Friday lunchtime.

The club wants to demolish and rebuild the west stand and clubhouse to bring the facilities at the Rec up to premiership and international standard.

It is holding consultation events at the Rec on Friday and Saturday before coming up with a planning application later this year.

Bath Rugby's Chief Executive on Rec consultation

Bath Rugby is to hold two consultation events before submitting a planning application for any development at The Rec.

The consultation events will be on Friday 27th September from 12noon to 7pm and Saturday 28th September from 12noon to 6pm in a marquee at The Rec.

This new facility is for the use of the whole city, with the rugby ground and home of Bath Rugby just one of many functions.

With that in mind, it is appropriate that we consult the people of Bath in the process of drawing up a design to be submitted as a planning application.

The Rec is one of the most recognised grounds in world rugby, with Bath Rugby having played there since 1894.

We celebrate our 150th anniversary in 2015 and it is fitting that these plans are now being worked up ahead of that historic milestone.

– Nick Blofeld, Chief Executive, Bath Rugby

Bath Rugby is to hold two consultation events before submitting a planning application for any development at The Rec.

The club want to increase capacity and improve facilities at the ground.

The East Stand will continue to be a temporary stand that is removed each summer to allow the Rec to be used for other sport, leisure and cultural events.

The West Stand, North Terrace and Clubhouse will be demolished and redeveloped to vastly improve the three permanent stands.

The consultation events will be on Friday 27th September from 12noon to 7pm and Saturday 28th September from 12noon to 6pm in a marquee at The Rec.

The body that oversees Bath's Recreation Ground has cleared the way for the city's rugby club to carry out a long-awaited redevelopment.

The Charity Commission says a group of trustees can grant the club the lease it needs to stay at the Rec and upgrade to meet premier league standards.

However other legal issues still have to be resolved before a planning application can be made.
