Man killed in light aircraft crash in Wiltshire
A man has been killed in a plane crash in Wiltshire.
The Yak-52 light aircraft came down in a field at Dinton Airfield shortly before 11am today, 8 July. A second man was cut free from the wreckage with a leg injury and taken to Salisbury District Hospital.
Two air ambulances, a Coast Guard helicopter, one road ambulance and a fire engine were on the scene as well as police. Military helicopters also circled the accident site.
Watch footage from the scene of the accident:
It is understood the bright yellow Yak-52 was headed to nearby Boscombe Down, an aircraft testing site and had taken off at 10.15 am.
The Yakovlev Yak-52 is a Soviet primary trainer aircraft which first flew in 1976.
The Yak-52 was designed originally as an aerobatic trainer for students in the Soviet DOSAAF training organisation, which trained both civilian sport pilots and military pilots.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is sending a team to investigate.
