The Yak-52 light aircraft came down in a field at Dinton Airfield shortly before 11am today, 8 July. A second man was cut free from the wreckage with a leg injury and taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

Two air ambulances, a Coast Guard helicopter, one road ambulance and a fire engine were on the scene as well as police. Military helicopters also circled the accident site.

  • Watch footage from the scene of the accident:

It is understood the bright yellow Yak-52 was headed to nearby Boscombe Down, an aircraft testing site and had taken off at 10.15 am.

The Yakovlev Yak-52 is a Soviet primary trainer aircraft which first flew in 1976.

The Yak-52 was designed originally as an aerobatic trainer for students in the Soviet DOSAAF training organisation, which trained both civilian sport pilots and military pilots.
