A sneaky wallaby used its best evasion tactics to avoid police capture after going on the run yesterday.

Police temporarily had the creature cornered in a back garden after a member of the public reported spotting him, but he managed to escape officers' clutches and hop away.

The police have now identified him or her as a wallaby. It remains at large and is believed to be in wooded area in Woodmancote.

It is not yet known where the wallaby came from but police hope the owner will come forward once they realise their unusual pet is missing.

The animal may be distressed and since they are strong and powerful animals, members of the public are advised not to approach it
