Heart-stopping footage like this released by Network Rail shows just how close some teenagers have come to death on the nation's railway lines:

Figures show that a person is killed on the railways almost once a week.

Now, a hard hitting campaign is going to schools across the region to warn youngsters of the dangers of crossing railway lines and fooling around at railway stations.

The video may be distressing, but it seems to be effective. We showed the film to a group of young people at a secondary school assembly.
