The singer Susan Boyle, who won international fame when she appeared on ITV's Britain's Got Talent, has been playing a key role at the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Bath.

Not only did she perform her famous rendition of "I dreamed a dream" from Les Miserables at the Opening Ceremony in the Royal Crescent, she awarded medals to the winning athletes on the first day of the games.

1,700 athletes with special needs are competing in 12 different sports over three days starting today, 29 August, at the University of Bath.
