Pensioner fined for shouting racist abuse at Muslim woman
A pensioner from Swansea has been fined for racially abusing a Muslim woman.
Irish-born Berty Fahy, 75, told the woman to "go back to your own country". He also swore at her and ordered her to take off the niqab covering her face.
Prosecutor Lisa Jones told Swansea Magistrates Court the woman was walking down a road and checking her phone when Fahy started to abuse her. A victim statement from the woman said: "Just because I follow my religion, I should not be treated like this."
Retired builder Fahy, of Uplands, Swansea, pleaded guilty to racially or religiously aggravated public order. He was fined £258 and ordered to pay £200 compensation to his victim and £85 towards prosecution costs.
