The sexes of the three new babies aren’t yet known as the tiny creatures are staying safely in the confines of their nursery tank until they become stronger in the New Year.

This is only the second set of tortoise born at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, having been home to the species for over 50 years.

The eggs were transferred to an incubator some 18 weeks ago and have recently hatched.

The conditions have to be right for the eggs to develop fully and we’ve been monitoring progress throughout.

The new borns are absolutely fine, growing and developing as we would expect.

All three are our very own Christmas crackers and a wonderful early Christmas present, deserving of their festive names!
