Thieves steal £20 of copper and cause £10,000 damage

Thieves who stole £20 worth of copper piping from a Tesco store caused £10,000 worth of damages when the freezers went off and food had to be thrown away.

Gwent Police says the theft happened at the Tesco Express on Newport Road, Trethomas near Caerphilly between 11.30pm on Wednesday night and 6am this morning.

The copper piping was stolen from the generator outside and the freezers and chillers went off.

Officers are making house to house enquiries and anyone with information is asked to call 101.
