Dog owners warned about fat on beaches
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is warning dog owners about rancid fat which is washing up on beaches in the area.
There is no threat to humans, as long as the material is not ingested, but several dogs in the Ogmore area have needed urgent treatment after eating the poisonous substance.
The council’s environmental health officers are investigating and say there were similar cases on the Cornish coast a few weeks ago. They are advising dog owners to keep their dogs off beaches.
The council's waste management department will be inspecting and clearing the coast line of the white substance on a daily basis until it stops washing up on the beaches.
