Jeff Walters, 72, and his wife Bonnie, 62, have been together for ten years.

But the couple, who live in Tycroes near Llanelli, have been asked to prove they are a genuine married couple by providing shopping receipts from years ago.

Meanwhile the couple face separation after Bonnie's visa application was rejected for a second time.

They were married in 2003 but initially lived in Canada because she was homesick but last year the pair decided to return to the UK so Jeff could be close to his family.

Bonnie came on a six-month visa and remained with an ‘extended stay visa’ but has now been told she can't stay any longer.

The Borger Agency told ITV Wales that under the rules it is not possible to switch from a visitor to a spouse visa whilst in the UK but it was possible to apply from outside the country.
