Teenager swaps fairground for prestigious classical music festival
A talented teenager from Towyn, near Rhyl has been given the opportunity to work at the prestigious international festival of classical music.
Last year, 19-year-old Shelby Holmes, became the first child from a travelling showman’s family to win a place at Trinity College Oxford.
This summer, she's helping out at the North Wales International Music Festival in St Asaph.
The festival's Artistic Director, Ann Atkinson says, "People are keen to place labels on Shelby. She’s been called gypsy and traveller – which she has no objection to, even though incorrect".
Shelby says she’s happy with her family history as travelling showmen, which can be traced back to the early 1800’s.
