A service to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the closure of the Lewis Merthyr/Ty Mawr collieries takes place at Rhondda Heritage Park today.

A plaque will be unveiled to commemorate all who have lost their lives in the South Wales coalfield.

The closure of the mine in June 1983 left only one colliery in operation in the Rhondda. In 1990, Maerdy Colliery also closed.
