'Record' MMR jabs for 2-year-olds

Almost 2,500 doses of MMR have been given in GP surgeries in Wales in the last week, according to Public Health Wales.

Powys measles cases 'double in a week'

The number of cases of measles in Powys have almost doubled in the last week to 41. The Powys Teaching Health Board says the outbreak is concentrated in the north of the county with most cases found in school age children, where the disease can spreadeasily, but people of all ages can be affected.

In Powys 1 in 4 teenagers have not had two MMR jabs and therefore not fully protected against measles.

Until now the outbreak has been focused in south west Wales.

Measles is a serious disease that can lead to long term health issues such aseye disorders, deafness , brain damage and even death. It is very importantthat everyone is vaccinated against this disease. One dose of the MMR(measles, mumps and rubella) jab will protect 90% of children and therecommended two doses of MMR jab will provide 99% protection againstmeasles. The MMR jab is safe and offers the only protection against measles.
