Minimum alcohol price plans don't go far enough - Welsh Government

Responding to the UK Government's plans to impose a minimum price for alcohol of 45p per unit, a Welsh Government spokesperson said:

Whilst the UK Government proposals to introduce a minimum price of 45p per unit of alcohol is a step in the right direction, we believe that they do not go far enough and need to be set at a level that will have most impact on those vulnerable groups who consume alcohol excessively, namely 50p per unit of alcohol. As devolution of alcohol licensing is not devolved to Wales, we will be feeding into the consultation to make our views known.

We have launched a campaign to raise awareness and encourage people to realise how much they currently drink and understand the potential damage they are doing to their health. Don’t let drink sneak up on you provides a range of advice and support to enable people to accept their drinking behaviour is a problem and to motivate them to make changes to their habits.
