Investigations are continuing after a scrapyard fire at Fforestfach Industrial Estate.

Crews were called to the fire, which involved tyres and scrap vehicles in the early hours of Monday morning.

They remained on site for most of the day.

People living near the site were told to keep their windows and doors closed, but it's been confirmed the fire posed no risk to the public.

At its height over 70 firefighters and 10 appliances were tackling the fire.

Firefighters continue to tackle large Swansea blaze

Fire crews say they have made 'significant progress' in controlling the large fire at the M&R Recycling Unit at the Felinfach industrial estate in Fforestfach, Swansea.

The fire involved commercial waste, 4,000 waste tyres, and scrap vehicles.

Over 70 firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue service have been involved in tackling the blaze from 6am Monday morning.

They will remain in place for the rest of the day.

Arriva Trains Wales have confirmed rail services between Swansea and Llanelli have been suspended, because of a large fire near the train line.

It's thought to have started just before 6am this morning at the Fforestfach Industrial Estate in the city.

Police are urging people to avoid the area.

Emergency crews are tackling a large fire at Swansea's Fforestfach Industrial Estate.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service said there were currently 10 appliances in attendance.

Roads in the surrounding areas are closed and passengers on trains running between Llanelli and Swansea have been told to expect delays.

Eyewitnesses online reported hearing loud explosions from the scene.
