The Severn Bridge has reopened after protesters blocked the westbound carriageway.

Eyewitnesses say protesters blocking the Second Severn Crossing westbound were holding up a Kurdish flag. They say about 15 people were taking part in the demonstration which is being dealt with by Gwent Police. In October 2014 Kurds from Wales staged a similar protest over the so-called Islamic State.

Gwent Police says the bridge is now open. Protesters were moved to the side of the carriageway by the tolls.

M4 blocked on Second Severn Crossing because of demonstration

The westbound carriageway of the M4 on the Second Severn Crossing is blocked by a demonstration.

Traffic Wales says the westbound carriageway is blocked with stationary traffic between junction 22 for the M49 and junction 23 at the M48 on the Bristol side of the bridge. Local diversions are in place.
