Sudanese man dies after immigration raid in Newport

A 23-year-old Sudanese man has died following an immigration raid in Newport.

Immigration Enforcement staff went to the Shaftesbury car wash on Albany Street on Saturday 30 June as part of an operation.

The Independent Office for Police Council (IOPC) said after staff arrived a man working at the car wash climbed onto a nearby factory roof.

IOPC said he fell from a height on Saturday 30 June and was found on the floor next to the factory with critical injuries.

A Home Office spokesperson said officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

But the man died after being taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

His family in Sudan are being informed.
