Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns defends position over tidal lagoon after coming under fire from MPs
A decision on the future of Swansea's tidal lagoon project will be made in due course, the Welsh Secretary has told MPs.
Alun Cairns MP was under fire in the monthly Wales questions session in the House of Commons this morning, with MPs from across the board questioning the UK Government's continued silence over the multi-million pound project.
Speculation that the pioneering scheme would not be given the go-ahead has been growing in recent weeks prompting First Minister Carwyn Jones to write to Energy Secretary Greg Clark reiterating his pledge of support.
When the Welsh Government's £200million offer was raised by Shadow Welsh Secretary Christina Rees MP at today's session, Mr Cairns said it was a fraction of the cost of the lagoon.
