43-year-old man dies taking part in Barry Island triathlon event

A 43-year-old man has died after taking part during a triathlon event at Barry Island this morning.

South Wales Police were called to Whitmore Beach at Barry Island shortly after 7:30am to deal with the emergency.

The 43-year-old man, who was taking part in the triathlon event, is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

Officers say that CPR was carried out by the ambulance service, lifeguards and the Coastguard, but sadly the man was declared deceased shortly afterwards.

The man's next of kin have been informed.

The organisers of a triathlon, All or Nothing Events, have paid tribute to the man who died.
