Alys Thomas of Wales has won the women's 200 metres butterfly title at the Commonwealth Games.

The 26-year-old was the fastest qualifier and lived up to that billing, finishing in two minutes 05.45 seconds, a Games record.

Australians Laura Taylor and Emma McKeon were second and third.

Thomas' win makes her the fourth Welsh woman to win a swimming gold at a Commonwealth Games.

The new medal tally means Team Wales have surpassed their gold medal total from 2014's Commonwealth Games in Australia.
