Widower's petition after wife's life 'unnecessarily prolonged' due to pacemaker

A widower from Abergele is campaigning for NHS staff to learn more about specialist heart devices after his wife faced a gruelling end because the heart implant she had couldn't be switched off.

Ron Hastings’ wife Patricia suffered from vascular dementia and organ failure. She passed away at a nursing home in Rhos on Sea.

The 87 year old says because staff at the home did not have the equipment to switch off her implantable cardioverter-defibrillator her life was prolonged.
