Husband killed by wife's Land Rover in freak accident, an inquest hears

A husband was killed by his wife's Land Rover when it rolled over him in a freak accident, an inquest heard.

Businessman Wyn Lloyd, 55, borrowed his wife's £45,000 Land Rover Evoque for a trip to the pub.

But he stopped in the road on the way home - and the automatic car crushed him to death when it rolled over him because he failed to put on the handbrake.

An inquest heard police tests have shown that on relatively flat surfaces without the handbrake being put on the Land Rover Evoque can roll away.

Mr Lloyd left the Angel Inn at Llansawel, near Carmarthen, at around 1am to drove his wife's Land Rover Evoque home after going our for a drink on New Year's Day.

He stopped the vehicle "for an unknown reason" before it rolled into him on the road. He wasn't discovered until 5am

The inquest heard tests were made on the Land Rover and no defects were found.

Mr Lloyd's death was found to be caused by pelvic injuries and heavy pressure due to the Land Rover.

A post mortem examination found Mr Lloyd had been two-and-a-half times over the legal drink drive limit.

Mr Lloyd, of Crugybar, near Carmarthen, was the owner of his family business Down Home Stoves selling range cookers, fires and stoves.

Mr Layton recorded a verdict of accidental death at the inquest in Llanelli.
