Driver recovering in hospital after Iceland lorry crashes into church
An historic church was badly damaged when an Iceland truck smashed into it early on Wednesday. - and passers-by say it was a "miracle" no-one was killed.
The giant lorry ploughed into the 150-year-old landmark church in Morriston, Swansea, after hitting a series of parked cars.
A spokesperson for Iceland said the driver was "taken ill at the wheel".
He was cut free from his cab after the horror smash shortly before 5am.
The front of the Iceland lorry was completely wrecked after the impact with the St John's church in Morriston, Swansea.
St John's Church is known locally as "the church in the middle of the road" because of its position on an island at a busy crossroads.
Morriston councillor Andrea Lewis, said she been told the driver wasn't seriously hurt - and there were no other casualties.
Local shopper Pete Hopkins, 42, said: "It's amazing no one was killed.
"It's a miracle in a way that it happened so early in the morning. I think if it would have been a lot worse.
The road was closed as police work on the scene. Traffic officers were investigating the accident.
A spokeswoman for Iceland said: "Unfortunately the driver was taken ill at the wheel.
"He is recovering in hospital and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
"We will continue to look at the causes of this. There wasn't anyone else involved."
