Cardiff's Coal Exchange to be 200-room luxury hotel and events venue

Plans are underway to turn Cardiff's historic Coal Exchange into a £40m hotel and events venue.

Signature Living says it has an agreed plan with Cardiff Council for the Grade II listed building to turn it into a luxury 200-suite hotel, wedding and events venue.

The development is anticipated to create 100 jobs and apprenticeship opportunities when work starts later in the year and a further 60 jobs when the venue opens.

The Signature Living plan also includes a pledge to create a heritage area within the building that will be dedicated to its illustrious history including the First World War memorial in the grand hall.

The redevelopment is estimated to take 18 months and the first phase of the new venue is expected to open to the public in late 2016.
