Swansea City 'reluctantly parts company' with manager Garry Monk

Swansea City says it 'reluctantly parts company" with manager Garry Monk in a statement on Wednesday.

Club chairman Huw Jenkins told Swansea's official website the decision had been made "very reluctantly and with a heavy heart".

Monk's departure, though, is no surprise, given Swansea's miserable Barclays Premier League form. What turned out to be his last game in charge was a 3-0 home defeat against Leicester five days ago.

According to bookies William Hill, Brendan Rodgers is the 2/1 favourite to take over the Swansea manager's job with David Moyes the 5/2 second favourite with Mark Waburton a distant third at 9/1.

Yesterday Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins dropped a strong hint that manager Garry Monk is on his way out of the struggling Barclays Premier League club after declaring that "something needs to change".

Monk took training as usual with the team on Tuesday but Jenkins - in London to collect his OBE for services to sport in Wales - indicated an announcement on his future could be imminent.
