Police issue warning over 'drug-driving' after several arrests
North Wales Police are cracking down on drug drivers as part of this year’s Christmas Anti Drink and Drug Drive Campaign.
Over recent days numerous arrests have been made whereby people have failed the roadside drug swipe test:
The most recent was a 35-year-old man who was stopped on the A55 near Llandygai on Wednsday 9th December. The driver failed the drug swipe test and was arrested.
On Tuesday an 18-year-old man was stopped while riding his motorcycle in Deganwy - he failed the roadside swipe test after testing positive for cannabis.
An 18-year-old man failed a roadside swipe test after testing positive for cannabis whilst in Wrexham on Monday 7th December.
Last Friday a 20-year-old was stopped on his motorcycle on the A55 - he failed a swipe test where he tested positive for cannabis.
Later the same day a man was seen driving erratically in Mold where he was later stopped by police. The 24-year-old failed the swipe test where he tested positive for cocaine and was arrested.
New legislation came into force in March which sets legal limits for how much of a substance – both illegal drugs and prescription medications motorists can have in their system whilst driving.
A drug swipe device is used which allows officers to test at the roadside using a swab from inside the driver’s mouth, to see if a motorist has taken cannabis or cocaine.
