Smoking litter 'on the rise' in Wales
A new survey suggests smoking-related litter is on the rise in Wales and remains the most common type of litter found on the streets.
Keep Wales Tidy - a Welsh environmental charity - say their latest report found smoking related litter on 86% of Wales' streets.
Predominantly cigarette ends, the charity says smoking litter is difficult to clean up and can affect wildlife and the environment by contaminating water supplies with chemicals.
Dog fouling was also found to be a consistent problem and a 'hazard for many neighbourhoods', being found on one in ten streets surveyed.
But the report authors found that despite these issues, street cleanliness in Wales saw an overall improvement since the first survey in 2007-08, with 96% of streets deemed 'acceptable to the public'.
