'Educating Cardiff ' teacher picks up top award

A teacher from Cardiff has picked up an award at a ceremony in London for her 'outstanding teaching'.

Joy Ballard, head teacher at Willows High School in Tremorfa, recently appeared alongside staff and pupils in the Channel 4 show 'Educating Cardiff'.

She's credited with turning the school around, 'improving the lives of its pupils and its community'.

Joy was presented her award by author Michael Morpurgo at a ceremony in London. It will be broadcast tonight at 6pm.

Mrs Ballard has now taken up a new role as Head Teacher of Ryde Academy on the Isle of Wight.
