Remembering Capel Celyn - 50 years on

It was a day of anger 50 years ago in the Tryweryn Valley near Bala.

In a highly controversial move, the entire village of Capel Celyn was flooded, and 48 people lost their homes.

Plans for the reservoir, which would provide water to the city of Liverpool in England had meant years of protest, which ultimately proved futile.

Elwyn Edwards had relatives who were affected by the building of the dam, he remembers the mood at the time.

But it wasn't just the construction of the dam which caused controversy - a bomb had been planted on the site by protestors.

Academics say that sort of action had a significant influence on the rise of Welsh nationalism in the years that followed.

The plans sparked many protests

In 2005, Liverpool City Council did apologise for the flooding at Treweryn, but for many that was too little too late.

For the people involved what happened in 1965 can't be forgiven, and should never be forgotten.

The symbolic 'Cofiwch Dryweryn', which means 'Remember Tryweryn' can still be seen
