Prince William joked that he has the rugby skills to play for Wales, after throwing the ball around with youngsters in Cardiff.

Despite being dressed in a suit and tie, the Duke of Cambridge joined in the drills, and showed off his handling abilities, alongside trainees on the Welsh Rugby Union Coach Core programme.

Prince William is vice-patron of the WRU and cheered Wales to victory against England - and his brother Harry - in a thrilling Rugby World Cup match on Saturday.

He told the youngsters he had been "taking the mickey" out of his younger sibling since.

Speaking about Wales' heroic win at Twickenham, he said: "Normally, I'm not on the winning team. So I was very proud walking around with these huge feathers" - meaning those belonging to his father, the Prince of Wales.

The Coach Core programme was created by The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in 2012 as part of the Olympic Legacy programme, and provides an intense training course for young people, many from disadvantaged social backgrounds, to become qualified coaches.

Prince William held his own during several rugby drills - even while wearing a suit.

During the visit to the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff, the Duke joined in a drill session where the balls were thrown between the trainee coaches who stood in two lines facing each other.

He had earlier joked about not being able to take part in his suit, saying he was "always badly dressed" for activities, but he later changed his mind and said: "I'll be sweaty in two minutes".

As the rugby ball passed between the apprentices it finally reached the end of the line and William clapped with everyone and joked: "A bit faster (next time), it was a bit slow there."

After visiting the apprentices, Prince William went to watch Wales's World Cup match against Fiji at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
