Two daredevil pilots have achieved a world first after flying through an aircraft hangar at the same time.

Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones were just one metre off the ground - and their aircraft wings almost within touching distance - as they zoomed into the building at 185mph and then out the other side.

The duo said the stunt, which took place at Llanbedr Airfield in north Wales, was inspired by the "barnstorming pilots" of the 1900s.

Bonhomme, a two-time Red Bull Air Race world champion, said afterwards, "There was a great sense of relief, but it was really great fun and also slightly bizarre flying through a building."

As the Xtreme Air XA41 planes flown by Jones and Bonhomme have a wingspan of 7.5 metres, the British pair had just 10 metres either side of them as they flew through the hangar.

Bonhomme will be taking on a different type of challenge on UK shores in August as he competes in the world's fastest motorsport, the Red Bull Air Race at Ascot Racecourse.
