A worker at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil who stole NHS property from his workplace and then sold it on eBay was given a six month suspended jail sentence at Merthyr Crown Court.

Paul Anthony Lloyd, 30, of Lawrence Avenue, Penywaun, Aberdare, pleaded guilty to one charge of theft and one charge of fraud.

He also received a 200 hour Community Order and was ordered to repay £5,000 to the NHS as compensation.

Lloyd was employed as an Assistant Receipt and Distribution Officer by the NHS Wales. He stole around 800 items including disposable gloves and hearing aid batteries from the hospital’s main store over a 15 month period and then used the hospital’s own franking machine and postal service to mail the items to his eBay customers.

The investigation was launched when the hospital received an anonymous tip-off. He was sentenced in December.
