Ambulance alternatives encouraged as Welsh Ambulance Service gets £4m for new vehicles

The Health Minister says the money will help provide a more efficient ambulance service

Patients with minor injuries may be taken to hospital in a taxi - rather than an ambulance.

It comes just weeks after figures highlighted the number of patients being transported in police cars has doubled in the last twelve months.

Figures out today also showed that the ambulance service yet again failed to meet its response times.

Ambulances have again missed their target for arriving at life-threatening cases within eight minutes.

The target is 65%.

What will the funding provide?

  • 14 emergency ambulances

  • 15 large patient care service vehicles

  • Four small patient care service vehicles

  • Two health courier service vehicles

  • Six specialist vehicles.
