Cardiff assistant boss Mark Dempsey has backed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to handle the stresses and strains of a Premier League relegation scrap.

Solskjaer sat out his weekly pre-match press conference yesterday, handing the reins to Dempsey ahead of a crunch clash at fellow strugglers West Brom this afternoon.

Albion are currently three points and three places above Cardiff, with the Welsh club knowing they realistically require maximum points, both this weekend and against Crystal Palace next Saturday, to ignite hopes of staying up.

Cardiff have just seven games left to plot a successful survival course and avoid an immediate return to the Championship, starting against West Brom today.
