A multi-million pound regeneration project of Penrhys in the Rhondda has been given the go ahead.

Outline planning permission has been granted for regeneration of the existing housing estate in Penrhys, alongside investment in new homes in the area.

It's estimated that the total investment could reach £40 million.

Developers say they will build around 100 detached houses and bungalows on the site, and it's anticipated that work will start in 2013.

The project also promises to use local workers and suppliers to create job and training opportunities in the area.
