Man charged over racially-motivated assault on woman

A 44-year-old man has been charged over an aggravated burglary and assault on a woman in Ballymena last month.

On Saturday 7 October, a gang broke into a house on Clonovan Road and assaulted a woman in what police are treating as a racially-motivated hate crime.

The man was arrested on Wednesday morning following a police operation in the Larne Road area of the Co Antrim town.

He is expected to appear before magistrates in Ballymena on Thursday 23 November.
