Protestor storms stage at Rose of Tralee

A campaigner for fathers' rights staged a protest during the live broadcast of the Rose of Tralee on Monday night.

The man, dressed as a priest, interrupted the Cavan Rose as she was being interviewed by presenter Dáithí Ó Sé.

Neither of them appeared fazed by the disruption as the man began shouting.

Broadcaster RTÉ cut to an ad break as the man was escorted off stage by security and taken away by Gardaí.

He had bought a ticket to the event and was later identified by Fathers4Justice as their founder Matt O'Connor.

A statement from RTÉ said: “Organisers are satisfied that adequate security measures are in place in the Festival Dome.

“The show resumed after a short break.”
