Paul Nuttall named new Ukip leader

Paul Nuttall has been announced as the new leader of Ukip.

The former deputy leader won 62.6% of the vote, beating Suzanne Evans and John Rees-Evans.

The leadership contest had been triggered when Diane James gave up the leadership last month, just 18 days after being elected to replace Nigel Farage.

Paul Nuttall has been elected new leader of Ukip.

The party's former deputy leader Paul Nuttall was the bookies' favourite to win and scooped 62% of the vote.

He beat off competition from ex-deputy chairman Suzanne Evans and former soldier John Rees-Evans.

The current contest was triggered after Diane James spectacularly stepped down last month, just 18 days after being elected to replace Nigel Farage.
