Air forces have carried out a fresh missile bombardment on rebel-held sections of Aleppo for the first time in three weeks, activists in the besieged city have said.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the airstrikes struck three neighbourhoods. It had no immediate details on casualties.

Syrian state TV said that government forces had hit what they described as "terrorist strongholds" in the devastated city.

Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu also announced Moscow had carried out air strikes today - though he did not say in which area.
