Egypt: 'IS attack' kills 12 security forces personnel in Sinai

There are reports that the so-called Islamic State has carried out an attack that killed at least 12 members of Egypt's security forces in North Sinai.

Eight other people are said to have been seriously injured after the attack on a check point 25 miles from the town of Bir al-Abd today.

This is the first major attack in the central Sinai area which was carried out with assault rifles and heavier weapons.
