The UK has voted to leave the European Union after 43 years in an historic referendum. Leave won by 52% to 48%.

The Bank of England said it is "monitoring developments closely" after the UK voted to leave the EU and will "take all necessary steps to meet its responsibilities for monetary and financial stability".

It added that it has "undertaken extensive contingency planning" and is "working closely with HM Treasury, other domestic authorities and overseas central banks".
