Two people have killed and eight injured in a bomb attack on a police vehicle in central Istanbul, according to Turkish media.

The blast was set off by remote control during rush hour in the central Istanbul district of Vezneciler.

The area is a commercial hub and the location of Istanbul University. It is close to popular tourist sites such as the Grand Bazaar.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Kurdish militants, so-called Islamic State and radical leftists have all staged recent attacks in Turkey.
