South Yorkshire Chief Constable steps down after one day

Deputy Chief Constable Dawn Copley, who was appointed acting chief constable of South Yorkshire Police after the suspension of David Crompton following the Hillsborough inquest findings, has "offered to step back to her substantive role" while another temporary chief constable is sought, South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner said.

South Yorks police chief apologises to Hillsborough families

South Yorkshire Police chief constable David Crompton has said his force "unequivocally" accepts the verdict of unlawful killing and the wider findings reached by the jury in the Hillsborough inquests.

The force failed the victims, and their families.

Today, as I have said before, I want to apologise unreservedly to the families and those affected.
