Junior doctors to take part in second day of first all-out strike in NHS history

Junior doctors are set to take part in the second day of the all-out strike in the row over contracts.

More than 20,000 junior doctors are thought to have been on strike yesterday as the Health Secretary admitted this was likely to be his "last big job in politics".

The strike is planned to take place between 8am and 5pm on Wednesday.

More than 100,000 appointments to be cancelled during strike

More than 100,000 outpatient appointments will be cancelled, and some 12,700 operations rescheduled, over the next two days as junior doctors across England take industrial strike action.

Preparations have been put in place for consultants to cover for junior staff members and staff will be deployed to worst affected areas but there are fears that some hospitals may still struggle.
