The Metropolitan Police has welcomed the conviction of two student would-be terrorists who planned to shoot soldiers, police officers and members of the public from their mopeds.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said that the plan by Tarik Hassane and Suhaib Majeed was "a step up" in terms of the threat to safety on UK streets.

This is an excellent conviction as a result of a true partnership between the Security Service, Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command and the Crown Prosecution Service.

It has prevented a murderous plot.
