David Bowie: World pays respects after music icon's death

Tributes have poured in across the world for musician David Bowie, after he died from cancer aged 69.

Hundreds gathered in his birthplace of Brixton to celebrate the life of a man whose career spanned six decades, while tributes were also left at his home in New York, his star on the Hollywood Boulevard and in Berlin, where he lived during perhaps his most fruitful creative period in the 1970s.

According to a statement on the singer's Facebook page, the performer died on Sunday, surrounded by his loved ones.

Fans leave flowers at David Bowie tribute wall in London

Fans of David Bowie have been paying their respects to the singer at a de facto memorial site in the singer's London birthplace.

A shop's wall in Brixton which celebrates the south Londoner in his Ziggy Stardust phase has become the site for floral and written tributes this morning.
